List of the Seventy Apostles§1
1Concerning the seventy apostles. 1. James, the brother of the Lord according to the flesh, who was also called the Just, became the first bishop of Jerusalem; having been stoned by the Jews in that same Jerusalem, he fell asleep and was buried there in the temple near the shrines. 2. Timothy, who became bishop under Paul in Ephesus, beginning in Illyricum and throughout all of Greece, preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ; there, therefore, he died and was gloriously buried. 3. Titus, the bishop of Crete, preached the gospel of Christ to Crete and its surrounding islands, and having died there, he was gloriously buried. 4. Barnabas, who first ministered the word with Paul in Rome, later became bishop of Mediolanum. 5. Ananias, who baptized the holy Paul, became bishop of Damascus. 6. Stephen, the first martyr and one of the seven deacons, was completed by stoning by the Jews in Jerusalem, as Luke testifies in the Acts of the Apostles. 7. Philip, who was also one of the seven, and who baptized Simon and the eunuch, became bishop of Tralles in Asia. 8. Prochorus, who was also one of the seven, became bishop of Nicomedia in Bithynia. 9. Nicanor, who was also one of the seven, completed his life on that very same day on which his fellow deacon and first martyr Stephen, along with thousands of others who had hoped in Christ, was martyred. 10. Simon, who was also one of the seven, became bishop of Bostra in Arabia; he was burned by the Greeks. 11. Parmenas, who was also one of the seven, died in his ministry in the sight of the apostles. 12. Nicholas, who was also one of the seven, became bishop of Samaria, but having fallen into heresy, he departed along with Simon. 13. Cleopas and Simeon, the cousin of the Lord, who saw Him and spoke with Him, and who also accompanied Luke after this one rose from the dead, as is written in the Gospel; this one became the second bishop of Jerusalem. 14. Silas, who ministered the word with Paul, became bishop of Corinth. 15. Crescas, whom the apostle Paul mentions in the second epistle to Timothy, became bishop of Chalcedon in Gaul, where he preached the gospel of Christ; he also bore witness and was buried there during the reign of Emperor Trajan. 16. Epaenetus, whom the apostle mentions in the epistle to the Romans, became bishop of Carthage. 17. Andronicus, whom the apostle Paul also mentions in the epistle to the Romans, became bishop of Pannonia. 18.
