The names of the twelve apostles who preached the gospel of Christ and how they died§1
11. Simon Peter, the foremost of the apostles, as is evident through his letters, preached the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Bithynia, Italy, Asia, and Illyricum; later, under King Nero in Rome, he was crucified upside down, being worthy to suffer thus, and was buried in Rome three days before the Kalends of July.
2. Andrew, his brother, as those before us have handed down, preached to the Scythians, the Sogdians, the Gorsini, and in the great Sebasteopolis, where the colony of Apsarus is, and the port of Issus, and the Phasis river, where the Ethiopians dwell; he was buried in Patrae of Achaia, having been fastened to a cross by Aegeas, the king of Patrae.
3. James, the son of Zebedee, brother of John the Evangelist, preached the gospel of Christ to the twelve tribes of the Dispersion, but was put to death by the sword under Herod, the tetrarch of the Jews, and was buried there in Judea.
4. John, his brother, preached the gospel of Christ in Asia, but was exiled by the Roman Emperor Trajan to the island of Patmos because of the word of the Lord; while there, he wrote the Gospel according to John and released it through Gaius the host; after the death of Trajan, he returned from the island to Ephesus and was buried there, living until he was ninety years of age by the will of God.
5. Philip the apostle, who was from the village of Bethsaida of Peter and Andrew, preached the gospel in Upper Phrygia; he dies in Hierapolis and is buried there gloriously with his own.
6. Bartholomew the apostle preached the gospel of Christ to the Indians, who are called the Eudaimon; having written the holy Gospel according to Matthew for them in their own dialect, he fell asleep in the great city of Albanopolis in Armenia and was buried there.
7. Thomas the apostle, as the tradition contains, was from the city of Panias in Galilee; he preached the gospel of the Lord to the Parthians and the Medes, and also to the Persians, the Germans, the Hyrcanians, the Indians, the Bactrians, and the Magi, and fell asleep in the city of Calaminus in India.
8. Matthew the Evangelist was from Jerusalem, and there he wrote the gospel of the Lord in the Hebrew dialect and released it to the saints...

The preaching and martyrdom of Paul and Mark§3
3[...] to Illyricum and Italy and Spain, where his epistles with wisdom are also found among us. During the reign of Nero, son of Claudius, he was beheaded in the city of Rome, having been martyred under Epiphanius, before the third Kalends of July; and there he was buried near the holy apostle Peter, and they are there even until today in Christ.
The martyrdom of Paul the apostle. During the reign of Nero Caesar, Paul the apostle was martyred in that very place, having his head cut off by the sword in the thirty-sixth year of the salvation, having fought the good fight in Rome on the fifth day in the month of Panemus of the Syromacedonians, who is called Epiphanius by the Egyptians, but by the Romans in the month of June before the three Kalends of July, by which day the holy apostle was completed in his own martyrdom in the sixty-ninth year of the presence of our Savior Jesus Christ. Thus, the total time from which he was martyred until this present consulate is three hundred and thirty years, in the fourth year of Arcadius and the third of Honorius, the two Augustan emperors, in the ninth Indiction of the fifteen-year period, on the nineteenth day of the month of June.
Mark the evangelist was a Cyrenian from Libya, and he preached the gospel to Alexandria and all their surrounding region as far as Pentapolis and throughout all Egypt; having been given by the apostle Peter, he shared the mystery of piety in the great city of Alexandria, having been dragged by ropes, and he passed away and was burned by the idol-worshipping Greeks in the places called Boukoloi, where he was laid up and is there even until today; and the day of his commemoration is the Lord's Pharmouthi, which is April.
Mark the evangelist and first bishop of Alexandria preached the gospel of the Lord to Alexandria and all its surrounding region, from Egypt as far as Pentapolis; during the reign of Trajan in Alexandria, having been seized by the neck and dragged from the places called Boukoloi to the places called Angeloi, there he was burned by fire by the idol-worshippers in the month of Pharmouthi the 34th, and there he was buried in the Boukoloi.

The Ministry and Death of Luke the Evangelist§4
4And having preached the gospel of the Lord to all its surrounding region even unto the Pentapolis, he is buried in Alexandria in the Boucola district with Iktaros, the first martyr in Lycia, whom Alexander struck down and laid there, where all the bishops lie. 14. As for Luke the Evangelist, a physician by trade, he himself wrote the Gospel according to Luke by the command of Paul the Apostle. He preached in Greece, in Rome, and in Italy; and he also wrote the Acts of the Apostles by the command of Paul the Apostle, for he traveled with the apostles, especially with the holy Paul, whom the blessed Paul mentions in his letters, writing: 'Luke the physician greets you in the Lord.' He died and was buried as the Bishop of Thebes.
Luke the Evangelist was of Antioch by birth and a physician by trade; he co-traveled with the apostles, especially with Paul, whom Paul also mentions in his letter, writing: 'Luke the beloved physician greets you in the Lord.' He died in Ephesus and was buried there, and was later translated to Constantinople along with Andrew and Timothy the apostles, during the times of Constantius, the son of Constantine the Great. The one recounting the Acts of the Apostles is Luke the Evangelist. For being of Antioch by birth and a physician by science, he traveled with the apostles, especially with Paul, and because he knew things accurately, he writes: he recounts how the Lord was taken up as if received by angels, and how the outpouring of the Holy Spirit occurred on Pentecost upon the apostles and all those present, the appointment of Matthias instead of Judas the traitor, the appointment of the seven deacons, the election of Paul and all he suffered, and all that the apostles performed as miracles through prayer and faith in Christ.
