Lactantius — Divine Institutes 7.18
That these things will be so all the prophets sang from God's Spirit and also the seers from the impulse of demons. For Hystaspes, whom I named above, having described the iniquity of this last age, says the pious and faithful, segregated from the harmful, will stretch hands to heaven with weeping and groaning and implore Jupiter's faith: that Jupiter will look to the earth and hear humans' voices and wipe out the impious. All of which is true except one thing: that he said Jupiter will do those things which God will do.
But that too was taken away not without the demons' fraud: that the Son of God is then to be sent by the Father, who, when all evils are destroyed, frees the pious. Which nevertheless Hermes did not hide. For in that book which is titled the Perfect Word, after enumerating the evils of which we spoke above, he said that God would send the Lord and Father's Word to purify the world.
