Justin Martyr, First Apology 8
Consider that we said these things on your behalf, because it is in our power to deny the charges when we are examined. Yet we do not wish to live by speaking falsely; for we, desiring the eternal and pure life, are imitators of the communion with God, the Father of all and Creator, and we hasten to confess. We are convinced and believe that those who have persuaded God through their works are able to obtain these things, because they followed Him and loved His communion, where evil does not stand against them. In short, these are the things we expect, have learned through Christ, and teach. Plato likewise said that Rhadamanthus and Minos would punish the unjust who came before them; we say the same thing will happen, but through Christ, and that in the same bodies together with their souls they will be punished with eternal punishment, not only a thousand-year period as he said. If someone declares this unbelievable or impossible, this error lies with us, not with another, until we are convicted by deed while doing no wrong.
