Commodian — Instructiones 65
The arranged time comes — peace for ours in the city — and ruins at once while the age flatters the first. You order the people whom you yourselves cast into schism: either keep the city’s law or leave it. You see the speck sticking in our eyes and will not discern the beam in yours. A deceitful peace comes to you; persecution burns. Wounds do not appear, and so without slaughter you have fallen. ****** Of all of you scarcely one has carried himself carefully. O to be nursed for evil in the predicted slaughter! You praise a deceitful peace, unjust to you. Made soldiers of another’s deed, not of Christ, you have perished.

Subdola pax uobis uenit, persecutio flagrat. Uulnera non parent, et sic sine caede ruistis, ********** De <omnibus> uobis uix unus caute se gessit. O malo nutriri in occisione praedicti!
